Are Cavities Always Painful?

Dental Cavities

Cavities are damaged areas on your teeth that are the result of tooth decay. If left untreated, a cavity will progress to the point that it can take over your tooth, and may require root canal therapy or an extraction.

Unfortunately, cavities are common among children and adults alike, with 91 percent of adults in the United States between the ages of 20-64 having at least one cavity [1]. Most people aren’t aware that they have a cavity developing, and don’t find out until they visit their dentist or experience some type of discomfort.

But are cavities always painful? Here’s what you need to know!
